Master Bedroom Tour – San Diego

Last weekend I asked on my instagram stories if y’all would like to see a bedroom tour and it was an overwhelming yes, so today is the day! I honestly LOVE sharing glimpses of my home here because not only does it helps me to document each move and how each space comes together, but how i’m forced to switch things up every so often while seeing how my style continues to grow.

If you’ve been following around these parts for a while you may notice that I absolutely adore greenery and natural tones in our home. I think it’s the love of the Scandinavian, Nordic, minimalist style that I admire and am trying to implement more into our day to day lives and living spaces. Plants/Greenery bring life to a room and I’ll be honest here, I have kill my fair share of plants. I have about 2 living plants in the house right now (YAY!) and a few outdoors but everything else (like this fiddle fig%) is completely fake. Not having to worry about the upkeep makes things so much easier and I just love the pop of life it brings to the room (and that tobi can’t knock it over to make a mess or eat it).

The bedroom space always feels like it should be a sweet oasis.
Eddie and I had a conversation before we got married how we didn’t want to have TVs in our room and really wanted to create a space that felt like an escape. With each home we’ve moved into we’ve slowly been figuring out what works for us to bring that sense of calm into a room. The sound machine is amazing and I’ve been using one for the last 5 years and it helps to just cancel out the busy street noise; at first Eddie wasn’t super sold on it, but now he makes sure it’s turned on while we crawl into bed. While I’m always moving things around right now this layout is working for us and as you can see Tobi loves making his presence known.

Thoughts While Sitting On The Kitchen Floor

Life is a whirlwind.
It’s been a little quite around here recently and I just didn’t know how to get back into the routine of creating content, posting, and connecting with everyone. I’m still not sure if I’m at a mindset to get back into the routine, but here I am just typing away.

I’m a floor sitter.
I have no problem sitting on the floor vs furniture especially if there is a comfortable rug to sprawl out on and just chat. Most mornings I’ll find myself sitting on the floor giving Tobi some love or scrolling through social media catching up on what all I’ve missed.

The other day I found myself scrolling through my follow feed and the next thing I knew I was spiraling down that rabbit hole of comparison. I’m not eating healthy enough, my weight is too high, I am not working out as often as I should, my life is boring, my husband and I don’t connect enough, my house isn’t as pretty, etc.

Like raise your hand if you’ve been there.
It sucks doesn’t it?
I’ve been thinking a lot about what all I’m putting into my mind – that whole theory of energy in = energy out. I really believe it’s the same as thoughts in = thoughts out which all boils down to, it’s really important what we’re investing our time in. There is this fine line between feeling that push of encouragement to better ourselves in a healthy and positive way vs the push of comparison that drowns us in this self deprecating cycle.

One of the things I love about community is the fact that when you dig in with another person and hear their heart you’re reminded that we all struggle and have insecurities, we’re not alone in that. I think of the most positive people I’ve been around in my life and they never hide their struggles or frustrations, but they have that unwavering joy through it. I’m sure they struggle with comparison and feeling as though they don’t measure up, but they have this ability to re-ground themselves in truth.

My truth is Jesus.
My truth is knowing that no matter what stage of life I’m in, what size jeans I’m wearing, the status of my friendships, or the depth of communication in my marriage, I’m infinitely valuable and already seen as worthy in God’s eyes. I know that can sound like religious fluff but let me just be completely clear, there is freedom in knowing there is love and joy and acceptance in the imperfect. This world will sit there and throw out so many lies and beliefs that we should be doing or looking like XYZ and if we’re not there is something to help us reach that goal or we should be better at striving to be that perfect instagram-worthy self…and there is no such thing.

My hope is that if you find yourself in that spiral where you’re comparing yourself to this woman, or that man, or this fitness expert, or that couple, etc that you stop, ground yourself, and repeat the truth that lies within reach. It’s ok to be imperfect; in fact you might as well embrace being imperfect because it’s most real, honest, and beautiful. I’ll be doing my job to remind myself of that as well; because I get stuck in the spiral more than I want to admit looking at other people’s perfectly curated social media lives.

For the record, my life isn’t perfect. 🙂
I’m in a city that I hardly know.
I’m making (great) friendships with people I’ll have to move away from soon.
I’m away from family and friends.
I’m not at the health level I want to be at and often scold myself for what I eat or don’t do for exercise.
My husband is in the military which poses a lot of complications on communication and time together.
I often (like daily) feel inadequate in my businesses.
…the list can go on and on and on.

Lorena Canal Washable Rug% | Pants% | Top (currently on sale!)

PS – This rug is LIFE!
I’ve been wanting a bigger rug for the kitchen (for all the sitting I do in there, seriously!) and Lorena Canal sent me this beautiful Bereber Beige Rug and I’m in love.
I actually have Bereber Black Rug in the Living Room under the coffee table and have had it with me since Maine when it was in my entryway as well as in Connecticut in our master bedroom. I’ve washed them a few times and they are still going strong which is a necessity in this household. Having a white rug in the kitchen equals spills (Eddie just spilled BBQ stuff all over it for the 4th of July and Tobi often pukes up hairballs on them) and they wash right out! You should totally browse the other beautiful wall accents, baskets, washable rugs, cushions, and blankets from Lorena Canal.

Comfort.
I have always wanted my bedroom to be a place of retreat, comfort, peace, and serenity. Since I now work from home I’m surrounded by to-do lists and this overwhelming sense of “I can never get everything finished”. I see a bathroom that needs cleaning, a pile of laundry I haven’t washed, a list of blog posts I need to finish, photography props I need to go through, etc. So when I walk into our bedroom I want to feel like I’m walking into a nice warm hug and not another thing to cross off of my list. When Eddie and I were first talking about married life we decided we would never have a TV in our bedroom – it’s meant for two things: sleeping and married time, ha! With that distraction out of the way I can really feel like I’m “off the job” when I come into our bedroom. I can read a book before falling asleep, listen to music, diffuse my oils, and just relax!

I purposefully chose this smaller nightstand with an open bottom so I can keep my oils (or a basket of blankets) underneath it for quick use. The drawer is full of journals, books, pens, and nicknacks which leaves me with little room left to stuff things inside of it (maybe it’s time to clean it out!). For many years I was a cluttered nigh-stand type of person; I would have books pilled high, random notes scribbled, cups from water, chapstick, you name it I probably had it sitting beside me. Now that I’m sharing a space with someone else I try my hardest to keep our surfaces as clutter-free as possible; it adds to that relaxing feeling. I found this awesome bedside pocket at UncommonGoods recently and I knew it would be the solution to my side-table hoarding problems. I have it full with a journal, whatever current book I’m reading, and some lavender lotion; this cute pocket sits snugly next to my bed and out of site for the most part. I can tell you this, if you’re looking for a special (and functional) gift for someone else visit UncommonGoods for some great gift ideas for your family.

One of my favorite corners in my room is my dressing corner.
Eddie always gives me a hard time about taking up the entire master closet because I have a small problem with clothes (ok maybe I do have a little hoarding problem). Since carving out this small corner of our bedroom I have been waiting for something to hang up on the wall near the mirror as it was looking super bare. This you are beautiful wood sign spoke to me the minute I saw it on UncommonGoods website.

The truth is, I struggle with positive self talk.
I’ve talked about it a few times on the blog before and this is something I still struggle with. I am not always kind to myself; I often turn into that mean girl who tears myself down and tends to focus on my flaws and not my strengths. So seeing this small but much-needed reminder that I am beautiful every single time I look in the mirror helps to keep things in perspective. I am beautiful. I have value. I have strengths. I am needed.
Now while I got this for myself, I would have been just as thrilled if Eddie had bought it for an anniversary gift. So my friends, if you’re looking for an anniversary gift (or even a wedding gift) head on over to Uncommon Goods to browse through their amazing selection. <3 PS UncommonGoods allows you to donate $1 from every one of your purchases to a non-profit organization of your choice! (how cool is that)!

Kitchen Chairs | CT Home

For a few weeks now I’ve been wanting to get some chairs for our little kitchen-island bar seating. Eddie and I have been eating all of our meals on the sofa, which is a-ok sometimes but I really like sitting down for a meal with one another, without the TV on and being able to talk about our days and just random things. There is something just so simply beautiful about sitting with another person while sharing a meal.
Growing up our ‘hub’ was always in the kitchen.
We would stand around and chat with each other while a meal was being prepared, it always made for excellent family bonding. As I got older my friends and I would always congregate in the kitchen for parties and meals and get-togethers, it just became the norm.

I think it was about two weeks ago I walked into a TJ Maxx and saw these stunning leather-like bar stool chairs and fell in love. I chose to think on it for a few days and talk to Eddie about it before just purchasing, and I think we all know how the next two weeks went. When I went back to TJs I couldn’t find the chairs, of course, so I hit up Marshalls and then Home Goods and they still weren’t there, let’s just say I visited those stores often just to check-in and see if they were there.

Finally this past Saturday I hit up home goods and low-and-behold there were three sitting there waiting to be claimed.
It took a broken spice jar, finding two store clerks, and she-hulk caring these things to the register with my remaining spice jar and these babies were loaded into the car and MINE. To say I find them pretty is an understatement, I think they really tie everything together.

What are some of your most recent finds that you love?
Did you have to hunt around for them for a few weeks like I did…..come on, don’t tell me I’m alone!

Pranamat - Home Office

This is the place.
The small corner of our townhouse where I stay up late, get up early, and spend some in-between time working on pouring into my blog, photography, and etsy.
It isn’t super pretty, definitely not always organized, but it works.
When we moved in there I knew that I wanted to have a space dedicated to all the business and creativity that I have going on – Eddie agreed, I mean we don’t need to have that stuff scattered around the house; so this space was born.

Can I be 100% honest?
Going from a 830-5pm Monday through Friday desk job to having a more flexible job is hard. I love structure and time lines and to-do lists (type-A first born over here). Trying to find ways to make money doing things I’m passionate about is, well, a struggle; so finding anything to help bring focus and balance to my office time is a win-win for me. Even on the days where I feel like I’m not always contributing like I want to financially, I know that I’m hustling and not just being stagnant. I am a go-getter and a can’t-sit-still type person which will continue to propel me into really cool places in life (hopefully).

One of my favorite things about the office – the pranamat.
It’s this amazing acupressure massage mat that is completely multi-functional, I’m actually using it right now as I type out this post.
It helps me to stay focused and zoned in while working on projects and slow down after a busy day.
I will completely say that the best use of the pranamat that I’ve found is to lay down on the pranamat for 15-30 minutes before/after a workout to stimulate blood flow which cleanses the system and removes aches and pains and restores energy. I can also 100% say that this is a marvelous way to help when you’re struggling to sleep; I lay on this sucker for 20 minutes and pray and relax and I am ready for bed in no time!
I’m still learning how to use the pranamat in all the ways it can be used and it’s really fun! I’m sure you’ll hear more about it as I continue to use it.

So, a quick run down of what to expect while using the Pranamat

+ Quick relief from minor aches and muscle tension: Targeting the sore or tense place with your pranamat, you stimulate local circulation and accelerate the body’s mechanism for pain relief

+ Renewed energy: In just 15 minutes, the increase in blood flow caused by lying on your Pranamat will give you a natural & lasting energy boost.

+ More elastic skin: Increased blood flow may have a locally regenerative effect on the skin.

I also know I’ll get the following question: do the lotus flowers hurt?
Yes and no.
It’s like a small prick when you first lay down and after a few minutes you start to feel a deep and relaxing warmth beginning in your back and then spreading outward though the body, it’s like laying on sand, and like sand they will leave small indentions that will go away after a few minutes.

PPPSSSTTTTTT……Head on over to pranamat for 10% off from yours truly!

So now comes the question I really want to know, what keeps you focused while working?
Tell me all about it please!

Maine Home | Bedroom

Take time to rest.
When picking out furniture and details for our bedroom I knew that ultimately this would be our safe place wherever we go.
Becoming a military wife has taught me something: be prepared for everything to change, and then change again.
I can not count how many times we have thought something would happen on date X when in reality it will happen on date T and then get pushed until date A.
Not having much stability in schedules lately means that our stability has become the small time windows in the day we do have to spend with one another.
Whether its binge watching designated survivor on hulu ((y’all SO GOOD)), cooking a meal together, getting to the gym, or lounging together WE are each others home.
One of the vows I made to Eddie was to always be his safe place.
I want him to come home and feel welcomed, respected, loved, and relieved from work.

This space is one of my favorites in our little apartment.
I feel there is a delicate mix of masculine and feminine details that really let our personalities shine.
Now, if you were to ask Eddie he would say this was all me – and maybe to a small degree it has a lot of my influence, but hey, I thought of both of us! haha
The wooden pieces paired with gold accents and floral details – they just make me happy every time I walk into our room.
The pictures flanking our bed are from our engagement session and, obviously, our wedding.
I honestly want to nail all the holes in the wall and put our wedding pictures everywhere.
Would a huge mural wall of the two of us just be too much? probablyyyyyyyyyyy

For the record: I didn’t just place Tobi there for the pictures.
That is one of his favorite perches places and his hair is all OVER the duvet cover, so I Finally put a little blanker there to collect SOME of his hair.
I also have my trusty lint roller that gets all the stragglers.
